Known Issues

In the CDR software, in the case number field, if you enter a case number in a ##-## format, this will create an error (of sorts) in the PCM CSV file when it is opened in Excel. Numbers entered in this format will be interpreted as a date by Excel. For instance 08-23 will be converted to 23-Aug, by Excel. If 08-53 were entered, this number would be stored as Aug-53, or 08/01/1953. If you were to try to format this entry into a number in Excel it would display 39685 (39,685 days after Jan 1, 1900.). Hence, if you have entered a value for the case number in the CDR software that Excel views as a date, the value entered for the case number in the CDR software will not exist in the CSV file.

The issue also produces an error in the CSV Pro Program. If there is a date in the case number field in the raw CSV file, the program will not graph. The reason is the program is looking for a case number which it expects to be a text, numbers or a combination of the two, not a date. When the program comes across a date in the case number field it halts, because that particular entry is not supposed to be a date.

To get around this issue, avoid entering the case numbers in this format in the case number field in the CDR software. For instance, instead of entering 08-22, 08-022 could be entered. Excel will not interpret an entry in a ##-### format as a date.

If you have entered cases numbers in this format and need to correct them, open the CSV file in Excel and click on the cell that contains the case number. Reenter your case number with a single quote in front of this number, so 08-23 would be entered as '08-23. This will cause Excel to see and treat the entry as a text entry, and it will not convert it to a date. I do not know for sure since I have not tried it yet, but I suspect that adding a single quote in front of the case number in the CDR software will do the same thing.
